The Cretan diet has given us the most valuable gifts of health and longevity, and this day is dedicated to the Gastronomical heritage of Crete.
The participants will have the opportunity to see and take part in the preparation and cooking of Cretan traditional dishes.
> Daily Program:
You will be transferred from your hotel to our Perivoli (Vegetable Garden)
Where on arrival you can enjoy either a fresh fruit juice or herbal tea of your choice.
Next will come the presentation of our program, where you will get to know our organic Perivoli, and begin collecting fresh vegetables and herbs that will later be used in the preparation of our traditional Cretan dishes!
We then depart further inland, through the oldest olive grove on Crete, to arrive at the village of Amnatos, where we are met by George, one of the most renowned cooks of traditional Cretan cuisine on the island.
Here we put on our aprons and hats (provided by office escort) and proceed with George to the cooking and preparation area.
We gather around a large table as George shows and explains to us the daily menu. He then divides us up into smaller parties, teaching us in smaller number the secrets of Cretan cuisine.
Once the preparation is finished we put our food in the wood cut oven for baking, and then take a stroll with our guide, where we explore and discover the history and secrets of the village.
On our return we will find our “creations” or “Lunch” waiting to be enjoyed by us and accompanied by good Cretan wine.
Our day of experiencing Cretan Gastronomy continues with tasting Tsikoudia and visiting the restored historical oil press of the Monastery at Kapsaliana.
And a coffee is in order before we head back for our hotel.
During the excursion our Leading Guests team shall, through presentations, conversations and personal experience, help you appreciate the unbroken continuity of the Cretan diet from prehistoric times until today.
